Jaathipathiri, also known as Mace, is the dried lacy covering (aril) of the nutmeg seed (Myristica fragrans). It is bright red to orange in color when fresh and turns yellowish or pale brown when dried.
Mace has a warm, slightly pungent, aromatic flavor and is used both as a culinary spice and a medicinal herb in Ayurveda and Siddha medicine.
